Jay and Chantal LIGHT up wherever they are. I’d never met them before the day we did their shoot, but Chantal and I had emailed back and forth for a few months. I could tell from her email alone that I would adore her.

I was RIGHT! And not only did I love her, but I loved her husband Jay as well! So much so I want to convince them to move here, so we can be couple friends and second shoot for each other (because she’s also an amazing photographer!) and have dinner parties. haha!

Jay and Chantal have been married for 7 years and they solidified my love of photographing married couples. Engagement photos are still one of my favourites, but there’s something about married couples….it’s hard to put into words, but for me I think it’s recognizing moments they share, because they’re ones I’ve also shared with Marco. Or maybe it’s that the excited/newlywed feel has worn off and all that’s left is just deep love and solid friendship.

These two are goofy together and I’ve never laughed so hard during a session before! We just had such a great time! Chantal had a few spots picked out, and she really wanted sunset lighting, but in and around the mountains, and with the random cloud cover we had it was so tricky to find a spot with good sun! We drove down to Vermillion Lakes and the clouds had the sun totally blocked, but it made for the most gorgeous background!!

So afterwards, we headed up to this huge gorgeous field by Two Jack Lake and after hanging out there for a bit, we headed to Johnson Lake and had the most gorgeous sunset lighting!!! In true mountain form however, that gorgeous sunset lighting lasted all of 5 minutes before it dropped below another peak! So we finished off their session at Minnewanka, where we just hung out. The wind picked up and with the sun gone, the bright blues were sooooo pretty!!!

Jay and Chantal, I SO hope we make it work so we can do dinner or work together sometime! I would love that so so much!! Marco and I had the BEST time meeting you two and hanging out!!
